is it possible to add an intro cutscene? similar to the cartoon animated ones on DE? I understand this is rather vague, but is it possible? And if so, how would I even begin?

I don't have any experience playing videos in-game, but I'm sure you could base it off this video:
Make sure the video is formatted as .mkv as described in: https://wiki.modme.co/wiki/black_ops_3/intermediate/Setting-Up-Loadscreen-Videos.html
And you could put the in-game screen brush/model somewhere the zombies can't get the players, and teleport/link and freeze the players to a spot facing the screen, to make it seem like a full-screen video.

you can play a video on the players screen with:

thread lui::play_movie("video_name", "fullscreen", true);


You can also create a xcam in maya, export it and create an xcam asset in ape. Or use an existing one
