Zoning a Complex / Non Box Area?

I'm kinda confused on how to zone a complex layout room, because you can't overlap zones correct? Can I have multiple independent volume brushes of start_zone to fit the area properly? Can I merge cut volume brushes into one single brush? What's the method? Tutorials only showcase basic boxes.

to make an irregular-shaped zone, duplicate the first one, and add a target KVP to the second one,and make the target has the same value as the script_string
